A Homemade Christmas

A Homemade Christmas

It seems like all the world is caught up in the hustle and bustle of Christmas right now. Buying the right gifts, going to the concerts, the plays, the parties, and the events. The first two weeks of December nearly wore me out, and I did hardly any of those things!

Are you feeling a pinch from all the must dos as Christmas Day quickly approaches? For most of us, we have just seven days including today to prepare. Are you ready? Are you panicked? Maybe this is the year for a different approach.... Read more.

This is the intro to the guest post I wrote at my daughter's blog, Hands Made to Love. Please go read the rest and leave a comment! I invite you to take a look around at her blog while you're there.

Happy Christmas!

  1. Thank you, I did visit your daughter's blog and enjoyed it. Just this morning I was trying to come up with a few simple easy small gifts I could make this week.

  2. We've made a huge effort to make Christmas more simple the last few years. Rather than big, expensive gifts, we try to cover some "needs" like craft supplies we're running low on, ammo for the guys' guns, expansion packs for board games...things that I know they'd ask me for during the year. We give one or two other fun things but they're all under $20 gifts....which still adds up to several thousand in a family this big but, like I said, they're things I would have gotten throughout the year anyway so I often stock up on extra in the earlier months. We've committed to clearing our schedule after the Christmas program at church that we're involved in (which was Sunday night...all done with that!) Jamie saved up a bunch of PTO time so he's taking 11 days off starting Saturday and we are just gonna chill and play games together. We've been doing Advent calendar each night with a Bible devotion and singing together, too. We don't feel the need to do everything, buy everything, make everything "perfect". These simple family times are perfect for us!

We watched Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas last night with the kids. Mrs. Otter reminded me of you. Such a sweet spirit...with some good-hearted sass, too! Ha! See you soon....I AM COMING TO SEE YOU after Christmas. It's goona happen!

  3. I just finished classes last Thursday...sadly, I have not sent out one card or gift yet...I was swamped with school. Anyways, want to wish you a very lovely Christmas, my friend.

  5. When my three girls were young, one Christmas we all agreed to skip presents and take a holiday trip. We gave each girl the money we would've spent on her presents for "trip money". The day after Christmas, we drove to Sonora Calif from our town in Northern California. We panned for gold, walked all over their "old town", which was often used for movie sets for westerns. The girls loved staying in a hotel and eating out...things we didn't usually do because back then it wasn't an everyday thing. I don't remember many Christmas', but I can remember so many details of the one where no one got presents, but had a great time.

Thanks for writing me back!
