A Thrifty Week at Harvest Lane Cottage #171

 Hello everyone!

I'm just going to quickly dash off this post, because I have company coming tonight. I still have some cooking ahead of me!

My biggest thrifty thing was saving four tshirts and two dresses that were ready for the rag bag. Why? They had mystery stains across the fronts. Every once in awhile, I'll put something in the wash, and it will come out with a mystery stain. I read somewhere about using Dawn Powerwash dish spray on stains. I tried it on these clothes. I sprayed it on, scrubbed it in with an old toothbrush, and let it set a bit. After washing, the stains came out! Clothing saved! That is a big deal to me, because two of the dresses had only been worn a couple of times. So, six items saved! Big savings! I highly recommend trying it. They items I used it on had already been dried with the stains.

I made cappucino at home with my Keurig rather than going out to the gas station for it. I saved about $1.50 per cup.

I ate salads at home this week. I'm doing a 21 day salad a day challenge. Join me? You can watch on my Instagram account where I go by Laura of Harvest Lane. Please follow me, then leave your account in the comments so that I can follow you!

I also sat down at my sewing machine and mended a hand towel, a bath towel, and a wash cloth that were showing wear.

Check out my Fall Bucket List to see what I have done and what I still want to do this Fall.

 Blessings,

  1. Thanks for the PowerWash tip. I do like it for messy skillets, I’ll try it on laundry

  2. Wow! That is great that you got those stains out! We have made a real effort to eat a salad everyday for about eight years. It really made a difference in our health and knocked out the sugar cravings. Cheering you on!

  3. That is good to know about the Dawn Powerwash. I hate ruining things with life left in them.

  4. I need to sit down and do some mending, too. I have a couple of things I need to mend to take on the road when I take my grandgirl to college.

I have used the Blue Dawn for years to get out stains that are set in. I have not used the Powerwash one but just the regular one. It does a great job. xo Diana

  5. That is a great save. I always just use plain Blue Dawn and rub it in and let it set a while and launder. Works every time. I love that stuff.
Hope you had a nice time with company.

  7. HI LAURA: ¿COMO HAS ESTADO? ESPERO QUE ESTES RECUPERADA Y TE SIENTAS MUY BIEN. TENGO TANTOS PROYECTOS EN MENTE, TEJIDO, COSTURA, MANUALIDADES UTILES PARA REGALAR A FIN DE AÑO, ESTOY TOMANDOLO TODO CON CALMA. ¿SABIAS QUE PUEDES USAR LOS RESTOS DE ROPA VIEJA QUE YA NO USES? CORTAS TIRAS Y PUEDES HACER UN TRENZADO CON ELLAS, SIRVEN PARA HACER ALFOMBRAS O TAPETES, APOYA OLLAS PARA LA MESA, LO VI HACE MUCHO Y QUEDAN MUY LINDAS, COLORIDAS Y RESISTENTES, ES UN TRABAJO ALGO PESADO, PERO EL RESULTADO FINAL TE SORPRENDERA. BUENO, ESPERO QUE TENGAS UN CALMADO DOMINGO, QUE DIOS TE DE PAZ EN TU CORAZON. BENDICIONES DULCE HERMANA.
