Easy Remedy for Food Stains and Mystery Stains

Somewhere, at some time, I ran across this recommendation for removing spilled food or drink from your clothing. I wish I remembered where I found the idea.   R emove food stains from clothing by mixing 2 teaspoons of Dawn with two teaspoons of white vinegar and two quarts of warm water. Soak to dissolve the stain.    It sounds like it would work quite well, however I've never tried it. Why? Because once upon a time, I found oily stains on a few shirts. I call them mystery stains. They just appeared. Figuring I had nothing to loose, I just squirted a bit of Dawn dish soap directly on the spots. I then laundered as usual. Presto magico! The stains disappeared! I've been doing this simple process on every stain since. So far, everything has come out in the wash!   I suggest you give it a try next time you face a mishap or mystery stain. Let me know how it works for you.   God bless and be frugal! Laura Happy at Home

Don't Sink Under That Burden!

“It has been well said that  no man ever sank under the burden of the day.  It is when to-morrow's burden  is added to the burden of to-day  that the weight is more than a man can bear.”  George Macdonald, poet (1824-1905)

On my Needles... What I'm Reading

Image
Knitting and reading in my free time and little bits of snatched time are two of my favorite ways to enrich my life.   I hope you had a nice Valentine's Day. My husband and I went out for a nice dinner Monday evening using a gift card he received for Christmas. Yes, I knit all the way to the restaurant! Photo by Rinck Content Studio on Unsplash On my needles... I finished the cuffs of my Foggy Gray Socks. They're waiting in my cabinet for me to settle in and weave in their ends. I'll get to it. ~smile~ My choices for February Socks Remember the sock yarns waiting for their chance on the needles? I made my choice. This blue, pink, and white fingering weight yarn was hand dyed by my friend Jill. What a wonderful gift! Thank you Jill.  I am naming them Berry Smoothie. They are project #4 in my Knitting for Joy 2023 fun.  The first photo shows the colors more accurately. I've been knitting away, and forgot to take photos along the way. In fact, I've not even put ...

Hey Y'all!

I've slipped away from my husband and the Super Bowl to write y'all a quick note. I've been terribly remiss as a blogger. The more I substitute teach, the less I do of everything I want to do. The energy just gets used up at school. Some days I just want to take a nap when I get home, and some days I do. I'm trying to decide if this is the way I want to go. I do enjoy the kids and the other teachers at the grade school I usually work at, but it is not easy for me. I just haven't had as much energy as I did before cancer, treatments, and C*v*d. It is nice to have a bit of extra money coming into the house, but I wonder how much we really gain from it. If I had children at home, it certainly wouldn't be worth it. But now, at 57? I'm just not sure. I don't do it only for the money. I could make far more working fast food or any other job. I believe it's probably the lowest paid job in our area. But I do love the freedom of not working if I have appoint...
