Happy Homemaker Monday ~ March 27, 2016

As I write this Sunday evening....

The weather.... is rainy tonight..

Right now I am... enjoying having my daughter Emily home from her spring break service trip.

Thinking... about what color I'd like to paint the bathroom. The ceiling should be finished tomorrow night. That means I really need to decide by the time my husband comes home from work Tuesday evening!

A quote to share...

Reverend Billy Graham

In my Depression-era growing-up years, I suppose we Grahams on our North Carolina dairy farm bore some resemblance to the fictional Walton family on television. It’s easy to feel nostalgic about simpler times, but they obviously were not easier times. Nor were they necessarily happier times.
What we did have back then was family solidarity. We really cared about each other, and we liked to do things together. Jesus’ word picture of a hen gathering her brood under her wing fits my mother. She saw to it that we gathered frequently and regularly–and not just around the dinner table or in front of the radio for favorite broadcasts. She gathered us around herself and my father to listen to Bible stories, to join in family prayers, and to share a sense of the presence of God.” Billy Graham
On my reading pile...
  • The Joy of Letting Go by Vicki Caruana
  • Ezra and Nehemiah with Bible Gateway
  • When No One Was Looking by Kim Frauli in my Kindle

Favorite blog post last week...

Something fun to share...
I think it would be fun to paint rocks and hide them like they are doing in Bentonville, Arkansas!

Blog hopping...
I'm reading through these blogs from beginning up to the present. Look at the lower part of my sidebar to see some other blogs I read. Please let me know if I'm on your blogroll, so that I can come and visit you, too!

On the menu for this week....
I've not made my menus for the week yet. I know that I'll be making chicken since I have a lot of it in my freezer!

On my to do list...
  • School records and planning
  • Balance checkbook
  • Pay bills
  • Laundry...always laundry
  • Insurance enrollment for kids
  • Try to fit in something from my bucket list
In the workbasket...
Looking forward to this week..
  • crocheting

Looking around the house... Just finished the dishes a few minutes ago. My teens are watching Iron Man. My husband is using his computer. The clock is chiming three quarters of the hour.

Update on Ellen Kuentzel 3/27:
She is still struggling with use of her left side. She cannot stand on her own. She fatigues extremely easy, at end of the day she cannot even feed herself and sometimes at lunch she gets tired also. She has been running a 103 degree fever and it took the hospital 3 days to find out it was a bladder infection. She has pressure sores on her heels (bed sores). We were going to cut her hair but she did not want bangs so we are going to have to just comb it out, it is all tangled and matted.

Brain injuries are extremely complex and they saved her life by doing the surgery as an emergency procedure.

  1. We got rain, too. We desperately needed it and despite a lot of it, the sump didn't even go on so the ground soaked it all in. We're expecting more all week. That's a great help to the farmers and also to the ranchers that lost so much in the fires. The rain will help more grass and hay to grow and cover the stark & burned landscape.

I love the rock idea. Really cute, and what fun to find one. My friend used to leave bible verses in plastic eggs around Easter and leave those in different places.

Life is still rough and we're still praying....blessings to you and yours, Laura.

    1. Oh, it must be awful to look at the burned landscape. When we lived in the country, we had a large field that grew burrs and stick tights. The farmer down the road wanted to use it for wheat. We ended up doing a controlled burn. It was ugly. I hope it all grows well this year.
      Be blessed!

    1. Hello Shellie,
Thanks for "talking back"! You are too kind. We've been watching The Waltons recently. It makes me remember my childhood and how I longed to live like that. Now I long for the simplicity of the way I grew up! Progress is not always true progress.

I'll come by and say hi.
      Be blessed!

  4. Great post Laura! We've been getting lots of rain too, finally. For awhile there I was beginning to wonder. As I type, I hear rain on the roof. Praise God!
My favorite way to cook chicken is in the crock pot with a jar of salsa Verde, cumin, minced garlic and 1.5 cups chicken broth. Cook on low for 6-8 hours, then shred for burritos, nachos, enchilada, chicken salad or just on rice. It is amazing!
Have you decided on a color for your bathroom. My boys bathroom is a light green and ours is like a golden pumpkin color. Both are soothing! Hope you decide soon. ;)

Have a great week my friend!
    Sending hugs and prayers,
    Amy

    1. Sounds delicious! Maybe I'll give that a try soon. Still deciding on the color. It's not easy. Lowell wants something dark. I want something light. We shall see. He says it's up to me.

  5. Hi Laura! Loved this little peek into our life, great picture of you with the other bloggers! Glad you are getting rain too, I know that it is needed so badly. I will be praying for Ellen. Good luck on deciding on the bathroom color. If you want to compromise, you could do what I did in ours, main wall is dark, with the other three walls light. It is easy to do, and really adds nice contrast, and this way both of you would be happy :) Just a thought! Hugs to you today :)

    1. I've been thinking about an off-white or cream. My husband wants something darker. It's tan right now. The ceiling's done. That's something. Now it all waits on me making up my mind. ~grin~
      Thank you, Jes.

    1. es. I will pray for you now. Father God, I pray for you to draw near to Gramma and her family as they draw near to you. Lord I ask you to show them truth and fill them with a strong desire for you and your word. I ask it in Jesus' Name. Amen.

Gramma, you might find you enjoy listening to the Bible on Bible Gateway. Saturating myself with God's word helps me to keep God on my mind and in my heart.

      Blessings,
      Laura
