Weekend Reading ~ October 31

Unsplash.com

Hello ladies,

Just sharing some interesting reading I've found lately. I've been focusing on my Fall Reading List! Here are a few things you might enjoy including my very old oatmeal cookie recipe. I expect that it is at least fifty years old! I don't even remember where I got the recipe back when I was a kid. I like to listen to Lydia Sherman's videos as I do my housework. Our first chickens were Black Australorpe.  Enjoy!

President Trump or Vice President Biden? A Note To My Friends Who Do Not Plan to Vote

When it comes to choosing President Trump or Vice President Biden, I look at a few things.

1. Who do I expect will appoint Supreme Court justices who will uphold the Constitution as written?
2. Who supports pro-America, pro-life, pro-second ammendment, pro-capitalism, pro-freedom standards, and most importantly, freedom of religion?
3. Who has a proven record of foreign and domestic policy that has benefited America?

While President Trump is not perfect, I believe he meets these standards better than his opponent Mr. Biden.

Please take a moment to read this post that I shared back when Mrs. Clinton and President Trump were running. It was a hard decision for Christians then, too.

Harvest Lane Cottage Fall Reading List 2020

I've a rather long reading list for fall this year. Why? Well, I've only read 38 books for my Goodreads Challenge. My goal is 50. I need to read 12 more books this year. So, even one book a week is not enough. I expect that I will add in some audio books on Scribd. Most of the books below are e-books or real hold in your hands books. I've already begun several of these books. I usually have six to eight books going at a time. I know that there will be two more book club selections this year. I also know that I love love love Christmas books. ~smile~ So, this is a for now Fall Reading List. I do expect to it will change if something else catches my eye. Whatever I don't finish will be carried over or added to a future list. Fifty books a year was easy when I was homeschooling. Now that I'm working part-time, I don't have as much free time to read! In fact, many of the books I "read" will actually be listened to on Scribd. My Kindle also has a book or two on it.

I've included Amazon affiliate links at the bottom of the page. You can also find some of these books on Scribd. See the bottom of the page to see how you can read or listen for free for two months.

The Christmas Swap by Melody Carlson Finished!

Midnight Clear by Dallas Jenkins  Finished!

An Ivy Hill Christmas by Julie Klassen Finished!

Persian Betrayal by Terry Brennan Finished!

Little House Living by Merissa A. Alink Finished!

Mother Culture by Karen Andreola Finished!

The Vintage Housekeeper's Circle by Alison May Finished!

Food in Jars: Preserving in Small Batches Year-Round by Marisa McClellan I had to return this one to the library before I finished it. I will probably buy it next year.

The Christmas Shoes by Donna VanLiere Finished!

The Christmas Hope by Donna VanLiere  Finished!

Ottoman Domain by Terry Brennan

Farmer Boy by Laura Ingalls Wilder

I'm currently listening to The Message out of curiosity. I've not read it before. I usually use the King James or New King James Bible. I'm trying to finish the New Testament by the end of the year. Finished!

P.S  I highly recommend using Scribd. You get unlimited ebooks and audio books plus other reading materials for just one low price. $8.99 a month. You don't have to pay per book. It's all included in the one price. It's the best money I've spent this year!

If you use my link, you'll get a 2 month free trial of Scribd, and I will get a free month as well. I'm not an affiliate, it's just a neat perk that they have for their subscribers who tell their friends. I've earned 180 free days just sharing how much I love their service! You can too.

Weekend Reading ~ October 17

These are my family's favorite buttery chocolate chip cookies!
I have made them for over forty years! Yes, I began as a child!

Hey gals, grab a cookie or two and your favorite cuppa and enjoy some weekend reading!

I do hope you have a wonderful weekend. I plan to carefully attend our town's Maple Leaf Festival. It's scaled back significantly this year of course. Usually we have thousands and thousands of people come to Carthage to enjoy it each year. Since the parade was cancelled, I think that it will primarily be a local celebration this year.

God bless you all! Happy Fall!

Stitching and Reading ~ October 14, 2020

Hello everyone! I hope that you're enjoying a lovely October. I've the day off today, so in addition to regular housework, I hope to spend some time with my knitting and my books. I work three days a week, and I try to either read or knit or both at lunch time each day, also.

What's on my needles...

These are my crazy scrappy socks. I've either knitted with these yarns in the past, or a friend has given me her scraps. Thank you Jean!

These are a pair that I'm making for a gift. You're probably wondering about all the little markers. They are five rows apart so that I can just count them up and be sure I have an equal amount of stitches. This pair was started on two separate sets of needles. When I got to the cuff, I put them on the same needles.

What's on my reading pile...

Too many books to list! You can see my Goodreads list here. While you're there, let's be friends!

While I knit, I've been listening to On the Banks of Plum Creek by my childhood heroine, Laura Ingalls Wilder. Read here about why I now know that Ma Was the True Heroine.

I also have a book on my Kindle reader that I've been enjoying. It's a Christmas book, of course, since I start reading Christmas books in September. Yes, it's a review book, but I'm really enjoying it. It's An Ivy Hill Christmas by Julie Klassen. Yes, the book is just as good as that yummy cover.

I've put links below to both books on Amazon. I'm an affiliate, and I appreciate you starting here when you do your Amazon shopping. There's also a link at the top of my sidebar. Every little bit helps. ~smile~ I also put a link for Scribd down below. I use it almost daily. I'm listening to On the Banks of Plum Creek on it right now.

Blessings to all of you!
Remember... keep busy.
Focus on the positive.
Enjoy!

Have a homemade, handmade, heartmade thrifty week!

Weekend Reading October 11

Hello everyone!

I hope you are all enjoying the season whether it is fall or spring in your neck of the woods. This past week has felt more like summer to me with daytime temperatures in the eighties. The maples are showing forth their glory just as they should this time of year. I had the opportunity to go to dinner and the theater with my husband tonight after witnessing my friend's wedding. She was a beautiful bride. I'll share some photos and tell you about the theater in a day or two.

For now, enjoy a little weekend reading!
