This Really Struck Me

Image
Study available at Bible.Com at my favorite price ~ free This really struck me: "Every great movement of God started with one man or woman who cared deeply enough to hear God’s voice and stepped out to do something. We can't change everything with a Dislocated Heart, but we can change something." I don't begin to think that I can or will start a movement of God, but I do want to care enough to hear God's voice and do something. That's one reason that I will stop and listen to other's stories. I care about their pain. That's also why I pray right then with them. Maybe in a small way, that will encourage the ones I pray with to pray right then with others when the opportunity arises. No more God in the closet! No more hiding. If others don't know I'm a believer, or at least that something is different about me, then I'm not doing Christian right.  Be blessed!  Laura  Currently busy teaching Special Ed kids

Laura Lately ~ Checking In After Quite a Week

It's been a challenging week. I missed an important deadline, because I just found the notice in my inbox. As I was explaining my week and apologizing, I thought I'd share it with you, too.  God is so good. I've really appreciated feeling him with me during all this.   This week: I attended my step-mom's funeral, began a long-term substitute special education teaching position,  my daughter announced that she's getting married September 24th (to a fine Christian young man),  my friend's husband was found dead in his camper,  other friends lost their baby at 36 weeks,  and I received the results from my MRI and bone scan that showed that I do not have cancer (Thank you Jesus), but I do have arthritis in several areas and a couple bulging discs in my neck.  There was nothing conclusive about the bone pain in my leg or the headaches that lead to the MRI. So, back to square one, but without cancer hanging over my head! Very thankful to Je...

It Grows on Trees

Image
Has anyone ever told you that money doesn't grow on trees? Picture from Meichele on Pixabay I just enjoyed a lovely old 1952 movie starring Irene done called it grows on trees. It opens with a 1950s housewife being asked by her many children and husband for different things that they need. Everything costs money, and they don't have enough. She scrubs and saves but it's never enough. While her husband is shaving, a $5 bill floats through the window. They take it as money from heaven. What follows is a humorous story of money that grows on trees and how this over-excited housewife handles it. It's free to watch on YouTube. I hope you enjoy it! Be blessed! What Happens if You Light a Candle?

Image
I'm reading Handmade by Melissa K. Norris. I found this quote to be a beautiful illustration of  our life as a Christian.  "The laws of nature follow the laws of the cross. You can have a candle lit in a sunny room and as night falls, the shadows will begin to encroach, growing larger as the earth spins. But unless that candle burns out, even at the height of midnight, that darkness can never snuff out that flame. And if you give that candle more fuel, it will burn brighter and brighter, pushing back the dark."   Handmade is a book about a handmade life. My initial interest in the book was because I am learning to make sourdough. Mrs. Norris has a blog where she writes about lots of old-fashioned, homemade, homesteading skills. She has a great video series about making a sourdough starter that's free. Her blog is Melissa K. Norris Pioneering Today .    Handmade   has recipes for all kinds of handmade items. I am intrigued by the cultured foods....
