Planning and Making Do... What I Hope to Get Done This Week!

Hello Ladies!

So good of you to drop in today.

I've been thinking of things I would like to get done over the next week or so.  You know how it is. Always something to do. So, here are some things I hope to do this week. I think I'll come back here and change the items to italics as I do them just to give myself a little encouragement along the way.

Planning:

  • menu
  • assignments for kids
  • blog posts
  • birthday dinner for my son
  • projects

Cooking:

  • Birthday dinner & dessert
  • Start my Kombucha tea
  • Make a sourdough starter
  • Try a new dessert
Reading:

  • YouVersion's Canonical Reading Plan. I'll finish Exodus and start Leviticus. I'm way ahead of the reading plan.  Most days it calls for 3 or 4 chapters. I'm accustomed to reading or listening to several chapters at a time. Sometimes I use Bible Gateway and listen until I need to do something else. ~smile~
  • I'm also reading 31 Verses to Write on Your Heart by Liz Curtis Higgs.
Sewing:
  • Cut out an apron.
  • Patch yet another pair of my son's jeans.  He needs a new hobby.  Tearing his jeans is not thrifty and frugal, but mending them is!  If I am inspired and have time, I'll find a little project to work on.

Studying:

  • Now by Sarah Coller All done. Read my review.
  • Control Girl by Shannon Popkin

Working:
  • Write two reviews. One done!
  • Write and submit articles to The Christian Home.
  • List three two items on my Ebay
  • Food cabinet—empty, wash, and organize.
  • Lots of laundry! Look for mending that needs to be done.
  • Celebrate my son's birthday
  • Enjoy candlelight
  • Bake some Trim Healthy Mama treats
  • Help my Amy practice hospitality
If I finish all this list, I'll have been very busy indeed. I also need to spend time with my kids and do some ironing and cleaning. Thanks so much for dropping in! I'd love to hear some of your plans for this week. It's so nice to have a chat over the back fence  internet with you today!

  1. Good morning Laura, love your posts, they motivate me to save and share! You also give me so many ideas to fill my time and to use it for good. I am now tracking my thrifty "do's" in my daily journal and I am surprised at the end of the week how well I have done! It fun too!

    1. Oh Miss Dazee, you do honor me with your kind words. I began the series as a way for me to not only keep track of my thrifty doings, but to inspire me to do more. I need to get myself motivated and get more done. ~smile~

  2. Laura,

I love this outline. I posted some of my goals for this week on my blog today. But I love how you set it up more specific. I love the picture of you at the bottom of your posts. How neat. That book by Lizz Curtis Higgs sounds like something I would love.

This week I plan to put together some Emergency Kits. I plan to finish the book The Broken Way. I also plan to make Apple Turnovers for the first time.

    1. Oh, Mrs. Chrissy, I hope you enjoy your apple turnovers. I've always thought they must be delicious from scratch. One of these days, I'm going to try my hand at hand pies. Pun intended. ~giggle~
Right now I'm trying to focus on some good for me things to try to take off a few pounds...like a lot of folks this time of year! On a good note, I've already lost my Thanksgiving and Christmas pounds!
Happy today! I'll come by and look at your list. You always inspire me.

  3. Your week is much like mine. Our Bible material is a bit different but both good messages. I bet you have a very special day planned for your son! Now back to "Zone 4" of the house cleaning. Flylady has me in the worst area of the home to tidy! Then music lessons tonight and to box up a stained glass window for charity auction. Thank goodness the gym is over!

    1. Hi Ginger Dawn,
I've not looked at FlyLady for awhile. What is zone 4?
Do you make stained glass windows? My mother used to do that years ago. I just finished with a lunch of leftover taco salad and some freshly made guacamole. Oh yum!
Have a wonderful day! I'm going to study next, then laundry!
      Blessings,
      Laura

  4. Laura, think your are gonna be a busy woman this week!
Me? Got my morning checklist done, spent about 40 min on my bathroom (my closet is in there!) I still have lots to do, but I have decided to spend the rest of today on things I enjoy, cooking!
Had a lot (a bushel) of oranges given to us, so I have my Grandmother's recipe for a lemon meringue pie, why not an orange? I'm cooking the oranges now, I hope it works!!
I have my pan of roux cooking away in the oven (an old Justin Wilson trick) another hour or so and I will be ready to jar it up.
Cooking pork chops for supper, that will start after the roux is done.
Should this orange pie work like I think it will, tomorrow I will be cooking & canning orange pie filling, and that seems like a terrific way to spend my day!
Love & blessings to you and your family, hope your sourdough start is great, I love the stuff!

  5. Hello Laura! Sounds like my kind of week. I'm trying to get things in order around here. Ha! Been doing laundry, you know that never ending job?! Swept the floors, baked a pan of yeast free cinnamon rolls and a lemon cake for a simple dessert. Peeled taters for dinner. Did school with the boys, walked in the mud to get the mail..that was challenging as I slid with every step. ;)
Sometime this week I need to finish the chore chart for my boys and I'm sure I'll have more laundry...
Having lists are so helpful. At least they are for me.

I hope you enjoy your week!
    Hugs!

    1. Wow, what a day! I hope there was something in the mail worth sliding in the mud for. I worked on laundry on and off all day. There was a lot after the weekend. There are five of us including three teenagers who like to change their clothes. ~grin~ I have just a bit left, but by tomorrow morning there will be another load. Lemon cake sounds delicious. Wish I were there!
      Be blessed my friend,
      Laura

  6. That is a big list! I hope you are able to accomplish as much as is reasonable.

I'm using the YouVersion Bible app too, the Bible in a year 2017 with commentary by Nicky and Pippa Gumbel. It is so good ❤️

I'm interested in making a sour dough starter. Have you done it before? If so, any tips??

    1. I don't know how much I'll get done, Mrs. U. I had an appointment this morning that kept me away most of the day. It gives me something to strive for!

I have tried once before to make a starter, but it went bad. I am planning to find a recipe and try again.
      So no tips.
      Good to meet you!

  8. Laura, I'm so glad I can arrive here and find your written words so inspiring:)
Boys will be boys and one day, they will get down on one of their knees for a different reason and sweep one young lady off their feet; and as a result, we will miss having them by our side and the days of mending their jeans will belong to another;)
We had a major plumping problem in the basement last week, so my husband basically took the entire laundry room and piled up one big heap on a table. We got it fixed and today I was just picking out what people needed to have clean. I really need to spend some time down there tomorrow re-sorting. At least my laundry room floor is sparkling clean thanks to hubby! That's a rarity (embarrassing grin:)
I fell behind in my daily readings and quickly caught up (since I couldn't do my laundry:) Just yesterday, I got ahead of the plan and hoping to stay that way throughout the year.
I'm so glad I can arrive at your blog for the inspiration I need to keep going. Thank you!

    1. Oh Sharon, you are too sweet. Thank you for encouraging me today.
I'm glad your hubby was able to fix the problem. Hope you get that laundry caught up soon.
Be blessed, come back anytime, and leave me an email so that I can reply directly.

    1. Oh Linda, I'm so you'll be done with school soon. I hope it all goes very well for you this semester. I am STILL waiting for snow. It does snow here. The last couple of years have been so disappointing.
      Talk to you soon,
      Laura

  10. What a great plan to list everything out on your to-do list. It always feels great to mark things off the list that are accomplished. I have to clean carpets this week, and organize the porch area as it tends to accumulate things. We have a new little puppy and that is keeping me busy keeping up with her, it is much like having a baby in the house, lol! I make my own kombucha too, and my family thinks it is better than what you buy at the grocery store. Hugs to you today :)

    1. Hello!
I finished the first study, Now, by Sarah Coller today. I expect to have a review up by tomorrow.

New puppies are very much like having a baby in the house. Sometimes it's harder. After all, no diapers!

      Enjoy your week,
      Laura

    1. Thanks Cheryl. I'm drinking collagen tea right now. It's a cup of any kind of hot tea with a bit of collagen powder added to it. I cannot taste it, but I know it will be good for my hair, skin, and nails.
Your post about the emotional side of getting rid of things really touched me.
      Hugs,

  12. Good Afternoon my friend! Boy that is quite a list. :) Do you want to hear something strange? I miss those days of lesson planning and teaching my children at home so much. To see then get excited or master a new concept after they had struggled with it made all those years of sacrificing worth it! I'll be interested in seeing how your sourdough starter comes along. That is something that I have not been able to master yet. Be blessed!

  14. I am always impressed by the things you get done. Only a bit of cooking and laundry here this week. Sticking close to home mostly, trying to rout out the dust bunnies. I have things to do, but have not done them, most of the first of the year business is out of the way, filing taxes still looming on the horizon though. A church supper pot luck to perhaps go to tomorrow evening, not sure what to take, maybe some of my Momma's jello fruit salad. I did not make it at Christmas, and missed it. Just Strawberry jello, fruit, and nuts, but easy, and it reminds me of her.
Hope the rest of the week finds you well, and getting things done :)

    1. Hi Annie,

Yes. You absolutely should make the jello salad. My mother made one with orange jello, mandarin oranges (canned), shredded carrots and pecans. It wasn't my favorite, but I want to make it one of these days just because it reminds me of her. A potluck would be the perfect place to take it.

Thank you for always lifting me up!
      Have a wonderful week,
      Laura
