Dear Reader,
It's been a week of blessing at the cottage. My eldest son was in a head-on collision that totaled both vehicles. Both he and the other driver walked away. Praise God. My daughters 19 and 15 went on their first road trip with a couple of girlfriends. They went on a day trip to the City Museum in St. Louis. It was a long day, but they had fun. Fortunately, momma has a friend in the St. Louis area that could have been called in an emergency. ~wink~ Thanks Laura!
God bless you all, thank you for your patience with me.
I also thank you for all the love you've shown and the prayers you've prayed. God will make a way where there seems to be no way. God bless you all!

Here's my thrifty week!
- We had barbecue spare ribs and smoked brisket for dinner on Memorial Day. That doesn't sound thrifty, but it was. Why? My eldest son found the ribs on sale and saved them for the celebration. The brisket was a gift from my father. We added baked potatoes with butter and sour cream. That was my favorite part. It settled better for me. Lots of leftovers to share with my son.
- Wednesday night, I chopped the leftover meat finely, added more sauce, and served it on buns with chips. Mostly free meal.
- My doctor changed some of my medicines. Most of them were covered in full by the insurance because I've already met my out-of-pocket maximums. Thank you Jesus! I was so glad I had the money I needed to pay for the other one.
- While waiting for my prescriptions, I bought a candle just because I wanted it! I don't do things like that very often. It was on sale for $5 off, and it had the most exquisite fragrance. Farmers' Market from McCalls' Candles.
- We enjoyed a free trial of Pureflix in May.
- Homemade ham and beans and cornbread made with ham hocks.
- I signed up for a free scarf with a couple of charities.
- I used the Suave shampoo and conditioner we had on hand instead of buying more Tresemme.
- My family made ample use of our Netflix account.
- I received some lovely gifts in the mail. Thank you ladies!
- Grilled cheese and Bean with Bacon soup—a taste of childhood.
What are you doing in your home this week?

I'm still praying for you sweet friend! For our thrifty week, I didn't want to brave the store for Memorial Day so Tim grilled chicken breast we had on hand.
ReplyDeleteWe bought an electric ice cream maker at the thrift store for ten bucks! We were happy about that.
I bought a couple of Sunset Gardening books at the thrift store they were six dollars for both. That really made this mama happy!
Laura, have a great weekend and again I will be praying for you.
I'm so glad your son and other person were not injured! I'm thinking of you and sending all good thoughts and hugs. Enjoy your weekend. Hugs,
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad your son is alright, what a scary thing to go through.
ReplyDeleteI agree about saving the pennies, was wanting to do it and never started, but going to start today. Thank you for the reminder. Hope you have a great weekend :)
Good for you Sandra! You have plenty of time to get money saved for Christmas. Every little bit helps! Hugs to you my new friend!
DeleteOh, my! I am SO sorry to hear of the car accident!! Thank the dear Lord for His mercies, even when we don't know we need them. I am so glad your son and the others are okay. Praying for you.
ReplyDeleteLaura... So sorry about your son's accident and so thankful that he and the others were okay! What a blessing. Praying for you in all you have going on, including your health. It was good to read your post. I hope you have a great week! :)
ReplyDeleteWe've had a bit of spending this week with some minor repairs that needed done around the house. We had some savings as my handy husband was able to do the work himself.
ReplyDeletePennies are being saved here for a beach vacation next year. We probably should have said no, but our little one will be almost twelve by the time we go. Need to make those memories while we can!
I will continue to lift you in prayer!
Thank the Lord your son and the other driver were both OK. It's hard being a mom and wanting to always be there to protect your children, but oh such a blessing when you can find peace in knowing no matter where they travel or what they do, the good Lord is right there with them. He's there with you too dear lady, each step of this journey you are taking. Praying for you and keeping you and your family in my thoughts. God Bless you, sending a big hug... Karla
ReplyDeleteLaura, I'm so glad that nobody was hurt in that accident! My heart nearly stopped when I read "head on".
ReplyDeleteYour Memorial Day meal sounded like a feast! Oh, how I love brisket! We spent the weekend working around the house so we did a hot dog toast in remembrance for those that have kept us free. My husband spent Sat. morning with his men's group & the Boy Scout troop from our church putting out flags at the cemetery. He drove me thru' on Sunday after church. It was so so beautiful and the number of flags for a non Vet cemetery was surprising. It gave me goose bumps to see them all.
I'm glad that you felt well enough to do some cooking this week. Every little bit helps both mentally and financially. One day at a time....
I had an enjoyable and productive week, probably the most normal one since before my husband lost his job in early March. I was nearly frozen in terror when that happened and it took some time to feel *normal* again. I did all my house cleaning, shopping, errands, & volunteer work.
I felt EXHAUSTED, but it was in a good way.
Laura, I continue to pray for you and your family. Enjoy your weekend!
Thank the good Lord no one was hurt in that accident! sounds like your week has been pretty thrifty. Hope you are feeling some better this week. Prayers and love.
ReplyDeleteGod is so good Laura. I am sure your precious son is shocked but he and the other driver are safe and sound. Metal can be replaced as they say around here. You are in my prayers and thoughts dear Laura. God bless you xxx
ReplyDeleteSo happy your son is ok.. So scary ...

Be blessed my friend.
