Laura Lately

Laura Lately...

I am healing well from my October 10th surgery.
I've been knitting a lot.
I knit some little hats to donate to the Shoebox Ministry of Samaritan's Purse. My church is putting boxes together.
I've knitted soft hats for the chemo center.

After knitting so many hats,
why didn't I take any photos?

I'm beginning to think about making Christmas gifts.
I'm thinking about learning to make little zipper bags.

I've made cocoa with whipped cream.
I am starting to blog more.
I've been reading more. I love Christmas books. This is a Kindle book.

I have begun reviewing again. Christmas by the Sea is a favorite.
I'm trying to add my blog posts to link parties.
I've been listening to The New Testament on Bible Gateway.

I am trying to pair down our book collection. As sad as it is, we won't need many of these books again, and I don't have the room to save them for grandchildren.
I've been making some odd meals to make ends meet.
I've helped out with Republican campaigning.

I've enjoyed lunch and coffee with a few good friends.
I've been doing some things on my Fall Bucket List.
I'm getting rid of clutter.

I've been taking my little Penny down to the courthouse square to teach her to walk with a loose leash in public. She is making progress.

Oh it goes on and on between driving my daughter everywhere she needs to go!

So, it's been a time of recovery while I redeem the time as best I can.  What have YOU been up to lately?

Blessings,
Laura

  2. Hi Laura,

I am so happy to hear that you are recovering well! You have certainly been keeping busy. I love the idea of knitting hats for the Christmas shoe boxes. I am sure they will be a blessing to the children who receive them. I love Christmas books too! I am always looking for a new Christmas book this time of year. : )

  4. We have been blessed to have two weeks away to rest and sleep at the lake house we own in partnership. We go home tomorrow and then it is back to reality!

I am glad you are doing well and starting to get back to normal. Zipper bags are fun to make. That is a great gift idea.

Laura, it's wonderful to see/hear/read you getting back into a routine again. As a routine kinda girl, I find it very comforting. When I was in my 20's and would tell my mom "things are boring," she tell me, "boring is good." Not that I quite got it then. But I COMPLETELY get it now. Boring is normal. I also find that as I'm aging, I'm not sure I have enough time to do everything I still want!! I don't have time to be bored!! Ahhh, I also get what they meant by "youth is wasted on the young"!!!! It's funny how it all eventually makes sense, huh?

I'm still decluttering. Good grief, do we have too much stuff. My craft room is a deliciously large basement bedroom, but I've decided that I really want it to be upstairs now. There's no chance of moms moving in anymore so I can safely move the guest room downstairs and do the switcheroo. But we have some floor repairs to make (cheap new homes with cardboard-like floors) and then recarpet. No way I'm gonna move ALL THAT JUNK twice!!! Hopefully by spring!

Sounds like you'll be Kringling soon!

I changed up my ENTIRE Christmas plan as an experiment. I'm spreading things out for both financial and time reasons. In addition to all the ordinary holiday stuff, I have 4 must-do birthdays in Dec., AND we re-decorate a room over T'giving weekend. That's just too much to cram into 5 weeks. So, starting this month, I begin. Instead of Christmas cards & a letter, I'll be sending cards & a letter for T'giving. I will also send my cousin's family their gift (food) to arrive for the long weekend when their boys are home from college. I will also ship 3 bday gifts to arrive on the Mon. after T'giving.
If you're not unconsciously bored yet, lol, I will ship out the last bday gift around Dec. 10th and then cease all activity for the remainder of the month. On Jan. 2, I will ship the remainder of C'mas gifts to arrive with the Magi. If it's good enough for Jesus, it's good enough for my family!! The last gifts will go out with Valentine's cards to my dear friends and covered in hearts to let them know how happy I am to have them in my life.

I'm hoping this new plan will remove the standing in line with 20 packages, the $250 shipping bill in one pop, not to mention all the other expenses and crowds and rushing. If you like, I'll update you as to how it worked or if I crashed & burned my plan!!

Please share pics, Laura! And, I'll always keep praying for you, deplorable or not wink wink!!

  8. Hello my friend! I am glad you are doing well and able to do so much. Most of my month has been finishing up a crochet order for a friend and now I am making many, many crosses for our church for the linens we use, but mostly I am having to take care of most of the house keeping chores because Jack is in lots of pain and has swelling in his feet because of diabetic nerve damage. I am pretty tired and in a lot of pain myself but it is an honor and a duty to care for him the best I can!

  9. Dear Laura, I hope you all done with medical things for a long time.
My dog is terrible at leash walking, he pulls and wants to go all over the place.

  10. I've been using your theory on regaining square footage by giving away or donating lots of stuff. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a sweet comment on that post about your blog. You are a true inspiration for me as we struggle through the same path you have bravely passed. My prayers always include you with a happy healthy future.

  11. I came over from Rivercrest Cottage, but it took me to a different spot. Then I found out you had been sick, but are in a recovery phase. So sorry, but it is wonderful that you are keeping involved in activities and your community. xoxo Su

  14. Laura, you are so giving to your community. I'm glad you are recovering and accomplishing so much. That's awesome! I've started up my weekly craft days for my neighbor girls, just for November and I had to split them into three separate groups that each meet on their own day. I decided to tie each craft to a storybook this month so I'm hoping the girls think that is fun. I'm also busy in my church and preparing a Christmas package to mail to my missionary in Peru.

Thank you so much for "talking back" to me!

I read all comments and appreciate them.
Please make sure I have your email if you want me to respond or pray for you.

God bless you! This life only works with Jesus. The next life is a continuation of this one—make sure you spend it with Jesus. Jesus is the only way to God the Father!
