Prayer Requested Surgery Monday March 1

Hello friends,

I'm requesting prayer. You may remember that I had surgery last November related to my previous breast cancer. Monday March 1st I will have surgery to close the incision they left over and to remove some damaged radiated tissue. It will be outpatient, but I will be away from the blog for awhile. I so appreciate all the support, comments, letters, cards and gifts y'all have given me during this cancer battle. I am cancer free, but this is the fifth surgery since my diagnosis. There will be one or two more eventually. This has been a very long journey. But praise to Our LORD and SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST! I'm still here to journey on!

Thank you all so much for your prayers!

 Laura

PS There's a contact form on the right if you would like my address. I LOVE SNAIL MAIL! I will write back!

PPS If you wish to give, donations can be made by PayPal to lauraofharvestlane@gmail.com.

Another Winter Chat ~ February 21, 2021

Hello everyone!

It's still winter a week later! That's very unusual for southern Missouri. This snow has stayed, and I've enjoyed it. I understand that a lot of people have suffered because of the weather, and I am truly sorry for them. May God bless them and help them get back to normal as soon as possible.

But, I am still enjoying my snowy yard.

One of the things that goes on My Winter Bucket List every year is making snow ice cream. We did it! It was easy and delicious.

I finished a diaper cover this week to go with the little peasant dress that I made for my friend's baby who is due in March. It was so nice to get back to the sewing machine. This was a very thrifty project. I used fabric that I had on hand from a project years ago. The thread was a spool that was so old, it was wooden! I know that it's best not to use old thread, but it was the best match for my fabric, so I thought, why not give it a try? It worked perfectly with no troubles at all.

I've tried some new recipes. I'm avoiding sugar and flour for the month of February. So, I'm trying some sugar-free options. I'm not on a Keto diet, but some of the recipes work for the challenge. I've not been too impressed, but I think the trouble may be the sweetener I used. I used Pyure. It's good for some things, but it's just not my favorite. I have some Trim Healthy Mama Gentle Sweet on order.

Last week, I told you that  I've challenged myself for February to do some things in addition to my regular housework.

  • Sewing: Sew a baby dress with matching diaper cover ~ Dress finished, I finished the cover this week, too.
  • Knitting: Knit a pair of child's mittens (First time in years) and knit 10 rows a day on my husband's socks ~ I've not touched the mittens, but the socks are ready for cuffs now. I also cast on another pair of socks. I get bored...and distracted. ~smile~
  • Correspondence: Write one letter or card a day and send it. I'm sticking with it. I've used a lot of stamps. I've received two or three cards in return. I'm hoping that I will receive more. It's fun to send mail, but it's also fun to receive it. I hope to get my older family members to write to me.
  • Cooking: Try four new low-carb recipes. ~ I've tried Butter Pecan Cookies, Keto No Bake Chocolate Cheesecake, Keto Snickerdoodles and Peanut Butter Cookies all from Joy Filled Eats.
  • Education: Duolingo language lesson daily and listening to The Old Testament I'm making daily progress. I'm on day 81 of Spanish lessons and day 121 of my As It Happened Bible reading course on Bible.com.
I'm keeping at it each day, and I'm making progress. It adds interest and keeps the days from running together since I'm almost exclusively at home now.

I'm going to spend a little time tonight watching a new movie with my daughter Amy. It's called Dolphin Island. I'll be doing a review on it next week.

I'm going to need to do a little planning this week. I need to get some things ready ahead of time. I'll be having surgery again on the first. You may remember that I had breast cancer in 2017. I am cancer free, but I got a terrible infection around my implant last November. It had to be removed, and they left my chest open and bandaged to heal. On the first, they will close me up. The doctor said it's a simple surgery, but surgery never feels simple to the patient. ~smile~ So, prayers will be appreciated.

Well, all for now. Have a wonderful week y'all!
God bless you!

A Winter Chat

Keep your tea cup filled! It's cold outside!
 Hello All!

We're finally getting some snow! Welcome winter! It's supposed to stay really cold this week, hovering around zero. It's chilly in the house. I sure miss our old wood stove at our country house. My husband is trying a new beef stew recipe, and I'm about to make a version of a low carb chocolate cheesecake. The trouble is that I cannot find my spring-form pan. I was sure I knew where I put it after we moved. I was mistaken. I'm going to try making it in a 13x9 pan and scooping it out. It is no-bake. If it tastes good, I'll share the source later.

I've challenged myself for February to do some things in addition to my regular housework.

  • Sewing: Sew a baby dress with matching diaper cover (Dress finished, cover is this week's sewing)
  • Knitting: Knit a pair of child's mittens (First time in years) and knit 10 rows a day on my husband's socks
  • Correspondence: Write one letter or card a day and send it.
  • Cooking: Try four new low-carb recipes.
  • Education: Duolingo language lesson daily and listening to The Old Testament
I'm keeping at it each day, and I'm making progress. It adds interest and keeps the days from running together since I'm almost exclusively at home now.

So, I've got to go work on that cheesecake. The kitchen will be warmer than the dining room where my desk is. ~smile~ Be blessed. Here are some ideas for things you can try this week.

Enjoy each day dearies! It's the stuff life is made of.

God bless you all,

Laura of Harvest Lane Cottage

That Moment When...

That moment when you realize that your brilliantly written blog post has just disappeared into thin air because of a problem inserting an image. And it's all your own fault. Yeah. I know that feeling right now. Ugh. It will have to wait for another day to be rewritten. Is this wall cracked and crumbling because someone hit their head against it?

Weekend Reading ~ February 6

There's nothing like old-fashioned homemade cocoa.
Try it! You'll like it!

♥♥♥

It's a cold weekend here in southern Missouri. My husband and eldest son are out vehicle shopping, My eldest daughter is studying at the coffee shop, my youngest son is no doubt sleeping after working all night, and my youngest daughter is working. I'm home alone, drinking a cup of cocoa, and about to start on my needle work. I have two sweaters to mend, a mitten to knit on, and a sock to knit on. Later, I may get to my sewing table. It needs a good clean off before I can actually sew. It's become a pile it all place over the last few months since I sewed. I also need to read a bit for a review coming this next week. What are you up to this weekend?

Here are some things that may interest you.
A Little Something Different:
  • Virtual Trips ~ Guided tours in real time with real tour guides in many places of the world. Free, but a tip is encouraged. I haven't done it yet, but it looks like fun. This trip to Oxford looks interesting.
  • I'm going to try this low-carb sugar free butter pecan cookie recipe today from Joy Filled Eats.

February 1st ~ Day One of the Letter Writing Challenge

Welcome to Februaryeveryone! I've always thought of February as the half-way point of winter. When I was a child in Topeka, Kansas, the winters were long and cold with lots of snow. Now that I've lived another forty years and moved to southern Missouri, it's cold, but not snowy very often. In fact, for the last few years, if it snows, I'm surprised. My husband doesn't like snow, but I do. He nearly always gets his way. ~smile~

I just wrote my first letter for the incowrimo February letter writing challenge. I intend to write a letter or card to someone every day for the entire month of February. This morning, I wrote to my husband's grandmother. My husband and two of my adult childen put in letters, too. It should be a nice surprise for her.

I invite you to join me in spreading some joy in February with cards, letters, and Valentines. ♥ I'm sure there's someone who would love to receive written  correspondence from you. If you do, I'd love you to comment below and tell me who your first letter will go to. ~smile~ Let's spread some joy this winter!

Blessings from Harvest Lane Cottage,
Laura
