Weekend Reading ~ February 6

There's nothing like old-fashioned homemade cocoa.
Try it! You'll like it!

♥♥♥

It's a cold weekend here in southern Missouri. My husband and eldest son are out vehicle shopping, My eldest daughter is studying at the coffee shop, my youngest son is no doubt sleeping after working all night, and my youngest daughter is working. I'm home alone, drinking a cup of cocoa, and about to start on my needle work. I have two sweaters to mend, a mitten to knit on, and a sock to knit on. Later, I may get to my sewing table. It needs a good clean off before I can actually sew. It's become a pile it all place over the last few months since I sewed. I also need to read a bit for a review coming this next week. What are you up to this weekend?

Here are some things that may interest you.
A Little Something Different:
  • Virtual Trips ~ Guided tours in real time with real tour guides in many places of the world. Free, but a tip is encouraged. I haven't done it yet, but it looks like fun. This trip to Oxford looks interesting.
  • I'm going to try this low-carb sugar free butter pecan cookie recipe today from Joy Filled Eats.

    Good Morning Laura!

So far today, I have made homemade salsa, Muddy Buddies and I am trying out a new Jalapeno popper recipe for tomorrow. We are going to my parents for the Superbowl (they live about 45 minutes away). My brother got them a new tv and Greg installed it so we are having a Superbowl "party" at their house! It won't really be a party, 4 OLD people, haha, but a good reason to eat "football food" as opposed to real food!

I like reading about all your sewing/crafting projects. I have no talents like that!

Have a great weekend, hope that you are feeling well!

    1. Hmmm... no craft talents.... I seem to remember you teaching a bunch of us ladies to make candles one day!We aren't really football people, and I'd taken no notice of football game, but Lowell informed me this morning that we need to make football food today for the game tonight. Some or all of the kids will be over. It's all about the food. ~smile~ Blessings my friend,LauraGo Chiefs!

  2. Yes...super cold weekend and week ahead, too, but sounds warm, cozy, and quiet at your house. Here I continue to take care of John as he rests, recuperates, and gains strength. My plan today is to get my house back in order and do laundry. Have a blessed weekend, my friend! Love you! <3

    1. Cozy and quiet right now, but it will get loud later today. Go Chiefs! The one day a year my husband cares about football!
I missed something. What's up with John? Father God I pray healing for John and encouragement for both him and for his wife in Jesus' name, oh, and the money they need to pay any medical expenses or loss incurred. Thank you Jesus.
Hugs to you friend, looking forward to your response about John.Laura

    2. I'm sorry that I've not gotten back with you sooner, Laura. Have had a lot going on.

I hear you! The Chiefs in the Super Bowl...it's the one day a year...or every two...or ten...that we care about football and I care about (and understand) it more than John does. I guess I'm what they call a fair-weather fan. It's too bad the Chiefs lost though. They played a really good game considering the fact that they were penalized every time they made a move. So sad! :/

Okay...John...he ended up the hospital for a few days after ending up in the kitchen floor unresponsive. We had both been sick for a while, but turns out that he was extremely low in sodium and potassium. That's what put him there, but after he got there he tested positive for COVID.

I was sick before he was and I suspected that that's what it was, but didn't know. When he went for a follow-up appointment Thursday they drew blood on me and ran an antibody test. I finally got the result today and it was positive, as well.

We appreciate your prayers...not only for healing, but for all the rest of it, too. I have missed three weeks work thus far and I have no idea what kind of medical bills will result from all of this. I'm not worried as I know that the Lord is there and that He will provide, but I do appreciate prayer coverage over the financial end in addition to the prayers for health and healing. And, please, keep them coming. John and I both have some numbers that are off. They've ordered up a liver scan for him and we both have work to do dietarily. So...

God bless you, my friend! Love and appreciate you! Talk soon.

  4. I love homemade cocoa. I remember a long time ago I had a friend from Costa Rica who made the most amazing homemade cocoa from a recipe that was passed down from her family.
I'm working on some sewn and crocheted hearts and reading The Pilgrim's Progress. Happy Sunday!

    1. I use a variation of the recipe on the Hershey's cocoa tin. It was the way my Grandma Mamie made it.It's wonderful to make hearts in February. I'll bet things are looking festive. I'm not a Super Bowl person, but my adult sons and maybe daughters will be here to watch it this afternoon. My part is to bake some cookies and make queso.Be blessed,Laura
