Thrifty Things Lately at Harvest Lane Cottage #161

Welcome to Harvest Lane Cottage.
I invite you to enjoy a cuppa and browse through hundreds of posts on faith, family, thrifty homemaking and encouragement.

Hello Dear Reader,

Isn't it wonderful? Winter must surrender to the calendar! It's Spring! I love Spring second only to Autumn. I love the cozying up of Fall, but Spring splashes forth with new life and hope! As soon as those first spring flowers push up and blossom, and the warmer breezes begin to blow, it's as if I'm young all over again! Do you feel the same?

I find myself wanting to do all kinds of new projects and activities both inside and outside. I'm healing well, and look forward to many pleasurable and rewarding things this season. I'll be writing my Spring Bucket list soon. If you'd like to see some of my old bucket lists, you can see them here. If you'd like, look at how I did on my Winter bucket List 2021.

Well enough of my rambling. Let me share my blessings and Thrifty Things Lately...

  • Thank you Miss Billie Jo for your PayPal gift!
  • Friends brought us a meal after my surgery. Thank you Beth!
  • I bought Cascade pods at Dollar Tree. There were 4 in a package—cheaper than Walmart.
  • My husband has planted some tomato seeds that we had on hand. They're sprouting and growing.
  • I needed a soup to take to a pot luck. I didn't have much on hand, so I made a ham and bean soup with cranberry and pinto beans, onion, and a ham hock. I found it delicious.
  • I used Scribd to listen to books. I enjoy listening while I'm working about the house, knitting, or driving in the car.
  • I received The Indebted Earl by Erica Vetsch and have been savoring it. I'm almost done. Look for the review soon.

It's a short list, but I'm feeling better now. I'll be getting back to my thrifty self. ~smile~ It's been a different kind of winter, but it's good because God is good!
And now, Spring! Or Fall for all y'all down under!

Blessings from Harvest Lane Cottage,
Laura

Who I Am to You is Who I Am All the Time

Hello, I am Laura Lane. I am a big city girl gone small town. I am married to my high school sweetheart, and we recently celebrated 35 years of marriage.

I am a Christian. I am a breast cancer survivor. I have known pain, fear, lack, and loss. BUT GOD. I write about faith, family, thrifty living, books, sewing, knitting, and sometimes homeschooling. I specialize in using it up, wearing it out, making it do, or being content without.

I am a woman of faith in a BIG GOD who has taken amazing care of me and my family through very hard times...many times. I delight in encouraging people, sharing my faith, and trying to splash the love of Jesus and smiles on everyone.

I've been writing this blog since 2007. I have been reviewing books for over ten years, though I don't remember when I began. I have also reviewed homeschool curriculum which I used with my four children (now grown) and various products.

I love Jesus, my family, small town life, and writing.

Won't you write back by comment, by email at laura@harvestlanecottage.com or by snail mail? I'd love to know more about you, what you like and don't, and how I can help you with this blog.

Blessings,
Laura

Thrifty Things Lately at Harvest Lane Cottage #160

Hello everyone! Recovery is going well. Thank you all so much for your prayers. I looked back and saw that my last Thrifty Things post was in January! Gasp! So here are the things that came to mind when I thought about just what we've been doing...besides  writing lots of letters!

  • Snow ice cream using sweetened condensed milk from Aldi bought last Christmas poured over a bowl of snow.
  • My Lowell fixed the bedroom door using a dowl rod. The screws had stripped the wood and they needed to be put back in so that the door would stay on the hinges.
  • I cut off the frayed edges on my old towels and zigzagged the edges using thread left over from other projects.
  • I patched a towel. It worked amazingly well.
  • Bought a like new blue dress shirt for $2  and a suit jacket for $5 at a thrift store.
  • My Lowell bought 4 dress shirts $10 on clearance!
  • He also went to a catalog return store and bought a golf jacket for $4 (He doesn't golf, but...), dress slacks for $4, four pair of dress socks $2.99, a white dress shirt for $13.
  • I burned a candle pillar candle that I bought at the thrift store for fifty cents.
  • I knitted a total of 3 hats for charity with yarn a friend gave to me. Thanks Beth!
  • Staying home saved lots of money.

  • I sewed a peasant dress and diaper cover for a friend's baby. I used fabric bought years ago for another project and vintage thread that I cannot even remember the source of. The only cost was for some elastic.
  • I'm knitting a pair of socks with yarn that was given to me. Thank you Laura!
  • We put a box under my husband's laptop to bring it up to eye level.

So, that's just some of our thrifty living since my last post in January. I set some challenges in February and did very well with them. March has been about recovery. Too much comfort food, too!

Have a wonderful week, challenge yourself this week.
God bless you all,
Laura

Quick Hello

Hello everyone. This is a very fast post. I want you to know that I am recovering very well. I am away from my computer, because my husband has arranged to change our internet provider. I should have internet at home by Friday. So, if you've commented or written to me, it may be a bit before I can get back to you. Thank you all for being such wonderful readers and Friends.

Laura

 Blessed to be a blessing.
