Hey y'all! I hope you're having a lovely week. This was a nice week for me. I got some things done, and I feel good about it. I finished knitting a pair of socks and blocked another pair. I'll get some photos taken and share them next week. The best way to keep up with my knitting is to follow me on Instagram. I am lauraofharvestlane.  In a recent post you can see the red and blue socks that I'm knitting for the Knit at Home Knit Along. Please follow me, and leave your information in the comment section so that I can come visit your Instagram page as well.

Now, here's how I've been thrifty lately.

A Verse for You

"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things."
Philippians 4:8

Here's my thrifty week!

  • Nothing beats ice water for keeping hydrated!
  • I've been staying home most of the time.
  • I bought a few things I needed on Amazon using gift card credit earned from YouGov. They are the only survey site I recommend. They send me a survey invite about once a week. They are usually short, and I get credit for every survey I take. It's quick and easy, and every once in awhile I get a reward. Check it out.
  • I've been making Super Quick Super Cheap Laundry Detergent.
  • I used Amazon Gift credit to buy a gift for a friend.
  • I borrowed a few books from the library.
  • My daughter bought me a book from the library discards for fifty cents.
  • I received some kids' books for review from Zonderkidz. I already reviewed the first one, The Beginner's Bible First 100 Animal Words and then gave it to our neighbor for his grandbaby.
  • I used an old note pad someone gave me to make stationery. I cut the advertising off the top to give me plain white pages. Then I used Washi tape to decorate the pages. Just a strip down the side or across the top. It was a very inexpensive way to make stationery.  I am pairing this with some old envelopes that I got who knows where or with homemade envelopes.
  • I put together a meal kit for the pantry. I put all the ingredients together for a quick chicken chili, including a can of chicken, in a bag for an emergency dinner and put it in the bottom of my cupboard.
  • I'm crocheting cotton dish cloths for shower and housewarming gifts.
  • I made a template for making envelopes with a piece of cardboard and an envelope that I split open and traced.
  • I made colorful envelopes and closed them with invisible tape since I was out of glue stick. I've thought about trying flour and water paste like my mom made when I was a kid. I'll let you know if I try it.
  • I made a quick hamburger stew for supper one night that was cheap and easy.
  • When we wanted take out pizza, we bought two pizzas from Aldi instead and baked them ourselves. We saved at least half.
  • I've been making delicious unsweet tea (I'm sweet enough) like we did when we had our restaurantFor 2 quarts: Steep a 2 quart size bag of Lipton tea with one bag of flavored tea. At the restaurant, we used Constant Comment. I've also used peach and peppermint. All were delicious and refreshing.

That's my thrifty week.

What are you doing in your home this week?

  1. Sounds like a great week! Is the flavored tea bag a regular size bag like for one cup?

  2. Hi, glad your feeling better. We absolutely love Aldi pizzas which we then doctor ourselves. Aldi's is our pizza of choice and I really, even time wise, can't make one for cheaper especially when they are on-sale. I stock the freezer. Working on the garden this week for cleanout and planting. Wish me luck!

  3. Hi Laura,
I have been reading your blog for a few years now. What got me started reading your blog was that I have cancer and it helps read someone else's experiences with cancer. Plus I like to read everyday life as others experience it.
I did not know you and your husband had had a resturant. I think that would of been exciting!
May God shine on your family.

    1. Hello Linda,
Thanks so much for writing to me! I am honored. I plead the blood of Jesus over you for complete miraculous healing through whatever method God deems best. Keep the faith sister!

Having a restaurant wasn't all it was cracked up to be for us.

      Blessings,

God bless you! This life only works with Jesus. The next life is a continuation of this one—make sure you spend it with Jesus. Jesus is the only way to God the Father!
