Now take a look for yourself!

My Thoughts:

I was a little unsure about the premise of this movie. It seemed a bit odd, but oh my! It turned out to be a fabulous story of love of family and friends, forgiveness, redemption, and it had a strong Christian message.

I cannot remember the last time I cried during a movie. Tonight, I cried at least three times. The acting was so realistic, I could forget it was a movie.

It's a great date night, chick flick, or family movie. Younger children won't understand it all. You can explain what you'd like them to get from it.

It was clean, no inappropriate scenes or language.

I highly recommend this movie. The scenery was stunning. The characters charming. The coffee shop was one you'd want in your own home town.

Please consider going to see this movie. We want to keep clean, excellent quality movies like this coming. It was Karen Kingsbury's first movie made by her own company, but it was completely professional in every way.

Bravo!

I Love Books and Sock Knitting

Hello everyone!

I have a confession to make. I've been knitting, reading, and listening to books instead of writing!
I've joined Denise @earthtonesgirl over on Instagram for the I Love Books and Sock Knitting Knit Along. Denise encouraged us to see if we could somehow match up our socks and our book. I thought that these colors coordinated pretty well.

Yarn from West Yorkshire Spinners
Goldfinch

The yarn is from West Yorkshire Spinners. It was a Christmas gift from my friend, Laura, who saw me knitting chemo hats back in the day and invited me to join her knitting group. She and the other ladies really pulled me out of my knitting comfort zone! Eventually, my friend, Jill, told me about the Fish Lips Kiss heel pattern, and I was hooked on sock knitting! It's portable, small and finishable.

I'm listening on my Libby app.

Billy Graham was instrumental in my coming to Christ as a teen. This book shows depth and explanation far beyond the phrase, "Jesus died on the cross for your sins."

Well ladies, I am subbing in a math class at the junior high today, so I'm off to finish getting ready.

Have a wonderful Holy Week!
Jesus Christ is risen!
He is risen indeed!

Review ~ This Special Blessing for You by Eric & Meredith Schrotenboer

The Special Blessing for You
Written by Eric & Meredith Schrotenboer
Illustrated by Denise Huges

This Special Blessing for You by Eric & Meredith Schrotenboer

9780310154761; Hardcover; On Sale Date 2/20/2024
This Special Blessing for You uses words and phrases that help children better understand what God wants to communicate to them. Each promise and declaration is based on the Aaronic Blessing found in Numbers 6:23–27: “The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; The Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”

My Thoughts:
This is a very nice picture book targeted to children ages 4-8. The Schrotenboers make the Aaronic blessing easy for parents, grandparents and others to share with their children. Think of the song that was wildly popular in 2020, "The Lord bless you, and keep you, make his face shine upon you and give you peace...." The focus was not only how the children could be blessed but on how the children could bless others as well.
This is lovely blessing and the illustrations really pop with color. They're not garish or strange like so many children's books. It's beautiful how Huges included all kinds of children in the book. It would make a great addition to any child's bookshelf.

Thrifty Lately ~ February & March

This was Harvest Lane Cottage for years.
God blessed us with a newer, nicer home in town in 2019.
It's good to remember where we've come from.

Hello everyone!

I've had a lot of reviews lately. I've got a couple more reviews for Zonderkidz coming this week. Don't give up on me. I've been working at the junior high a lot lately, and I just haven't had the routine down to sit and write.

Free books and film previews provided to me in exchange for honest reviews:

Use it up:

  • Knitting scrappy hats with leftover sock yarn
  • Knitting socks with yarn that was given to me a couple of years ago.
  • We've been eating primarily from the pantry and freezer
Thrifty Purchases:

  • Texas Ware melamine mixing bowl $3
  • Pizza stone $8
  • I bought four new dresses for less than $100 with free shipping. 60% off sale!
  • I bought a personal care item at a big discount with free shipping. I'm sure there were other things that I just didn't remember to write down.

Gardening:
  • Lowell replanted plants grown from cuttings for me in last year's leftover potting soil
  • Lowell bought pea, kale, lettuce  and spinach seeds from local farm store for a total of $1.50.
  • Lowell planted tomato seeds in pots we already had.

Other thrifty things:

  • I borrowed a book on the Libby app.
  • I listened to a lot of books on Everand for one price of $11.99.
  • I made a delicious chicken casserole with things I had on hand using this video from Becoming a Farmgirl.

Just in Time for Easter! FIONA and the Easter Egg Hunt by Richard Cowdrey

FIONA and the Easter Egg Hunt is the latest children's book illustrated by New York Times best selling illustrator Richard Cowdrey. It's a great addition to the Fiona series.

Cowdrey's illustrations have the cute factor in overload in this Easter book. I adored the bright colors, the wide range of animals, and the unique storyline perfect for Easter with an unusual egg hunt.

Although this hardcover book is targeted for ages 4-8, it's a great point and speak book for younger children as well as they find Fiona, swans, bears, turtles, giraffes, elephants and other zoo animals.

Zonderkidz.com Ages 4-8

$12.99

 Fiona the World Famous Hippo was born six years ago in the Cinncinati Zoo. She was six weeks premature and was so small, she couldn't stand up to nurse from her momma. The zoo's #TeamFiona stepped in and cared for her, and she thrived. Fiona was only 29 pounds. The average baby is 55-120 pounds. She is the smallest hippo ever to survive.

She is now a star of her own line of children's books and has YouTube videos about her.

Burden Bearing... Don't Be a Donkey!

Burden bearing. I think we've all done it. Someone shares a prayer request, or you become aware of a need that you cannot meet, and you feel such a heaviness over it. It just tugs at your heart and makes you melancholy. You might be anxious or fearful. It can take many forms. The need may be your own, your family's, a friend's, or even a stranger's, and you carry it on your back even though you cannot meet the need yourself. So you pray. Then you pick that burden back up and carry it some more....
"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7
Let all your requests be made known to God. You need to be like Teflon and let the prayer requests slide through the pan of your prayers and onto Father, Son, and Holy Spirit's plate to make things right and bring healing physically, spiritually, socially, and financially.

Now, I must insert here that feeling a burden to pray for someone long-term is not the same as carrying the burden of that prayer being fulfilled. Keep praying, but don't carry the anxiety of the prayer being answered.
"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30
I really need to remember this right now. My own burden of physical pain, our finances, our health,  and the burdens of my children have been heavy on me lately.
"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble."
Matthew 6:34
It's time for me to take it to heart, to really quit worrying about what may happen to me and my husband, to my children, to my family. I need to just take it to Jesus, and leave it all. I cannot control it all by worrying about it.

What about you?
Are you burden bearing instead of making your requests known to God?

I know I need the second half of that verse. "the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

Let's seek him on a deeper level, and trust him more.

My Cozy Early Spring 2024 Reading List ~ Updated March 16

Happy Early Spring!

 This is a fabulous time of year for readers. It's the ideal time to open a nonfiction book and learn a new skill, a bit of history, or how something is done. It's also an excellent time to slow down a bit while the world goes whirling by and slip into the land of make believe for a little bit. I have to admit that's my favorite kind of reading.

  You can read in the car (but not if you're driving—unless it's an audiobook), read while waiting for appointments, read while waiting for your kids to get out of lessons, read on your lunch break, read while relaxing in a comfy chair; or, if your hands are busy like mine often are, you can listen to audio books. I listen to at least two or three audio books on Everand each month.

  My point is, if you really want to read, you can make time even if it's only a few minutes. Snatch those moments for you!

~~~
Here are some books that I expect to read:
Michael's Gentle Wife
by my friend Karen Andreola
Hanged by a Thread
ACF Bookens
Publishable by Death
ACF Bookens
Finished
 This one was a bit more worldly than the first book of the Stitches in Crime series. More drinking, 2 gay characters, and an inappropriate sleepover. She's a good writer though. I think I'll go back to the other series. Hanging by a Thread is the second in that series.
Writing the Cozy Mystery
Nancy J. Cohen
The Midnight Bookstore
Matt Haig
The Phantom Tree
Nicola Cornick
Did Not Finish
The Phantom Tree had the potential to be an excellent story, but unfortunately, s*x and drinking made me too uncomfortable to finish it. What a shame that few authors believe that they can write without it.
Walk It Out
Tricia Goyer
  Well that's the plan for the next couple of months. We're seeing green, yellow, and purple as the crocus and daffodils burst forth! Ah Spring... but the end of Winter has its pleasures, too. Enjoy the now, friends, whatever season is showing where you are.
Blessings from Harvest Lane Cottage,
Laura
Additional audiobooks that I listened to on YouTube:
  • A Lodging for the Night by Robert Louis Stevenson
  • The Black Veil by Charles Dickens
  • Lost in a Pyramid or The Mummy's Curse by Louisa May Alcott
  • The Poor Traveler by Charles Dickens
Additional audiobooks that I listened to on my Libby App:
  • The Case of the Missing Marquess (Enola Holmes #1) by Nancy Springer
P.S  As you may know, I highly recommend using Everand. You get ebooks and audio books plus other reading materials, sheet music, and other things for just one low price of $11.99 a month. You don't have to pay per book. It's all included in the one price. It's the best money I've spent this year!
If you use my link, you'll get a 2 month free trial of Everand, formerly Scribd, and I will get a free month as well. I'm not an affiliate, it's just a neat perk that they have for their subscribers who tell their friends. I've earned 15 free months just sharing how much I love their service! You can too.
